Is the service Free?

Yes, it costs nothing to register and receive notification of suitable vacancies that meet your requirements and have been identified through the system. However, from time to time we may offer additional services that have a cost attached. It is entirely up to you whether you take up such offers. We do not pass on your details to any third parties.

How often is the system updated?

Daily, Monday to Friday. Vacancies you can apply for should be notified within 24 hours of being posted; often before they appear anywhere else.

What happens after I have been notified of a vacancy?

Nothing unless you choose to follow up the vacancy and request details and if you want one, applications pack. The system does not pass your details on to schools although in some circumstances we will tell them how many people are registered for that type of job in that location.

What do I need to register?

An idea of where you want to work, what subjects you want teach, what level and and an email address to send you details of vacancies. We do not pass on this email address to third parties.

Can I de-register once I have found a job?

If you tell us you have found a job you can check a box in your registered details to stop further vacancy alerts. You can re-register at any time, as it is a free service. We may still tell you of professional development activities and anything else offered by Oxford Teacher Services that we believe may interest you. We won't pass your details on to any other organisation although we may allow them to advertise on the site and you may be asked for details if you click through to their web site or other application.

When does the site operate?

The site operates throughout the year although there are very few vacancies during August and the system is not operated between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.

What type of schools will be included?

All primary and secondary schools in England whether state-funded or independent schools. This will include academies, free schools, maintained and voluntary schools, University Technical Colleges and Studio Schools. Vacancies in special schools open to secondary teachers will also be included where relevant.

I am not a newly qualified teacher, can I use the site?

Yes, vacancies between NQT and Executive Head are matched.

How many schools offer vacancies through this system?

Schools that register receive additional information about the state of the job market, but the system collects all suitable vacancies schools have placed on their web site, often before they appear anywhere else.

I am not sure where I want to work, how do I register my request?

As there are around 60,000 vacancies advertised each year for teachers we don't want to overwhelm you with matches. As a result, you can choose the postcode and mileage option or a specific local authority. Beware, at certain times of year a large radius can produce many jobs in popular subjects if you select an urban area. However, for the less popular subjects and at certain times of year, this may be the best option. You can always refine you choice later. As it is free you can register several times if that helps you select a number of specific local authority areas, but the terms and conditions do not allow you to select every local authority. If you make more than one registration we may contact you to confirm that you are a bona-fide applicant.

How do I select a subject?

Choose one from the drop-down menu. As we recognise schools use a range of terms to describe different subjects we have taken as wide a sweep as possible, so you may receive some vacancies that are not really suitable. For instance, geographers and historians will receive vacancies for humanities teachers and because schools usually ask for a 'science' or 'languages' teacher you may receive details of some vacancies beyond your specific specialisation. We would rather send you too many vacancies to select than that you miss the right job just because how it was described by a school.

How much does the service cost?

The basic service is free. Schools that register can log vacancies as and when they arise with no limits on the number of adverts placed. Jobs must be either listed on the schools web site or use the free TeachVac portal (just check a box when you register your school or update your details. When you register your jobs you will see an indicator showing how easy or difficult it is likely to be to appoint. Extra information, such as the number of trainees seeking a teaching post in the area that includes the school can be provided for a small fee of £49 per year to cover all vacancies listed by the school. Additional social marketing to likely candidates is available for a small extra fee per vacancy.

How do I register a job?

Schools that register complete a notification page every time that they have a vacancy. This notification automatically gets saved and the job details passed on to suitable candidates. If the school is not registered then we may still pick up your vacancies but by entering the details directly we can be sure to handle your jobs more precisely. TeachVac is free.

Will jobs which have not been registered directly by the school be collected by your software?

Yes, any jobs on a school web site will be analysed, but we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the details we pick up from a school's web site, and the school won't receive any information about the current state of the job market.

Are there any restrictions on the jobs?

No. We handle all levels of jobs from NQT's to executive heads in the primary and secondary sectors.

What happens if we make a mistake in our listing?

Vacancies will be sent to trainees based upon the information entered on TeachVac and your web site / portal. If you spot a mistake on the job data you entered on TeachVac, please call us. If a mistake has been made on your web site, please amentd this as soon as possible.

Can teachers other than trainees sign up for the system?

Yes. All teachers from NQT's to Executive Heads may sign up.

We are an academy chain that advertised jobs centrally; can you cope with our requirements?

Yes, the system is designed to handle such a situation and there are specific pages for you. Schools in your chain can access the labour market data but not post vacancies. Choose the Group registration button on the schools login page.

Why do you need our DfE URN number?

Rather than give you yet another number to remember as well as the username and password we thought this was a number you might already know. It can be found on Edubase if you are unsure.
